Embark on an extraordinary journey to the untamed Arctic landscapes of Norway’s Varanger Peninsula, where the forces of nature shape a breathtaking wilderness unlike any other. This eight-day, seven-night adventure is a dream come true for passionate wildlife and landscape photographers, offering a rare opportunity to capture the raw beauty of Arctic coastal scenery and the fascinating birdlife that thrives in this remote region.

Throughout our journey, we will traverse the stunning landscapes of Varanger by minibus, ensuring we have access to the peninsula’s most spectacular photography locations. Our primary focus is on seabirds, but the diversity of Arctic avian life will provide endless inspiration. Among the stars of our expedition, we will encounter:

- Atlantic Puffins, comical yet charismatic in their breeding colonies

- Black Guillemots, Common Guillemots, and Black Legged Kittiwakes elegantly perched on coastal cliffs

- Northern Gannets, masters of the wind, with their breathtaking dives

- White-tailed Eagles, soaring over rugged coastlines

- Purple Sandpipers and Arctic Skuas, Razorbills and Cormorants, are resilient against the elements and countless other fascinating species that call this Arctic paradise home.

- On the last day in the area, we make a tour to the tundra. Then we have the best opportunities to photograph the wonderful Arctic Fox! Thumbs up!

Beyond the vibrant birdlife, Varanger Peninsula’s dramatic coastal landscapes, including jagged cliffs, windswept fjords, and expansive tundra, offer endless opportunities for awe-inspiring compositions. If needed, we organize editing and review sessions, gathering in the evenings to review and discuss photos, sharing tips on composition and post-processing.

With expert guidance, immersive Arctic nature experiences, and the magic of endless northern light, this photography expedition is set to be an unforgettable adventure.

FACTS AND ITINERARY

The Varanger Fjord – Norway’s Easternmost Fjord and a Gateway to Arctic Wonders

You travel with a hiking and photography guide to different destinations by car. The guide is a professional nature photographer and knows the best spots for beautiful shooting in the area.

The Varanger Fjord, Norway’s easternmost fjord, lies along the wild and untamed shores of the Barents Sea, just 35 kilometers from Finland’s Nuorgam. This remote and spectacular region offers travelers an unforgettable experience, drawing visitors with its rugged beauty and dramatic Arctic landscapes.

Standing on the shores of the fjord, you can truly feel the edge of Europe, where land meets the vast and mysterious northern seas. Beyond the breathtaking scenery, this area is a paradise for birdwatchers, hosting an incredible variety of seabirds and Arctic species.

Yet, the wonders of the Varanger Fjord extend far beyond birdlife. With a bit of luck, we may encounter the giants of the ocean - whales that roam these Arctic waters. The fjord is home to several magnificent whale species, including:

- Fin whales, the second-largest whales on Earth, known for their swift, elegant movement.

- Humpback whales, often seen breaking the surface as they feed along the coast.

- Orcas (killer whales), the formidable and intelligent predators of the northern seas.
