TAILORED WILDLIFE PHOTOGRAPHY - FACTS

Tailored & Private Wildlife photography tours are usually arranged in several different wild & natural areas in Finland. For week-long tours, we normally start from Helsinki or Oulu airport and make a round trip by a car, including many birds and wildlife. You can choose a rental car for yourself or have a guide and a driver.

For shorter tours, you can propose to us an idea, and we will fix the tour of your dreams for you! The meeting and the start of the tour can be in Oulu, Kajaani, or Kuusamo.

The South Lapland area is an unforgettable wild area during the dark green and lake blue summer, but it is also a winter photography paradise where massive, untouched snowfields cover your way to the well-equipped photographic hides under the glowing Northern Lights!

Northern lights photography with the big candle trees in the photos is what we are famous for.

Together with our partners, we also organize night photography sessions where we observe and capture space, stars, galaxies, the moon, the sun, and the northern lights using a large telescope, to which a camera can also be attached. Additionally, we learn a lot about space and hear fascinating stories from an astronomer.

Golden eagles and different owls live here, so it is more than possible that you will see these big birds gliding silently above the untouched white snowfields. A goshawk and eagle owl are likely to meet in the forest studio. The North is also a place for half domestic reindeers and joyful huskies! Do we take a ride?

Many different birds live in ancient forests: Black woodpecker, Siberian jay, crested tit, raven, black grouse, willow grouse, capercaillie, etc. Variety is big, and we can promise many different species during one day in the bird hide, depending on the season. Also, the red fox, mountain hare, and hermine are often seen in the area.

​Wild Taiga, Kainuu province, the North-East part of Finland, is located in the vast wilderness area near the Russian Border. This is a kingdom of our biggest predators: brown bear, wolverine, wolf, lynx, and sea eagle. Remember also the rare wild reindeer.

The Lakeland area is perfect for a Finnish rarity, the Saimaa ringed seal. The Saimaa Ringed Seal (Pusa hispida saimensis) is one of the rarest seals in the world. Around 480 seals remain in Lake Saimaa, Finland. There is still plenty of work to be done to protect this species that remains on the verge of extinction.

  • Accommodation: In a Local Hotel or cabin (or you may prefer to stay the whole night photographing in the hide, when available)

  • Price: 880 €/person/night when 1 person, 790 €/person/night when 2 or more persons. (Minimum charge is for two nights for a single person)

  • Price includes: Guidance, meals (breakfast, picnic lunch, dinner), accommodation in a hotel room, sleeping bag for the hide night (if needed), sauna, and shower. Wildlife hides are equipped with dry toilets.

  • The price doesn’t include flights.

  • Transport: Transport between different locations during your stay, we charge 0,85 € / kilometer by car.

  • Equipment: Participants have their own warm boots, clothing, warm underwear, etc., according to the cold weather and staying in the photography hide. Please ask for the whole list of equipment during the booking. You can also rent winter clothing sets from us.

  • Equipment included in the price: Sleeping bag

  • By additional cost: single room +60 €/night.

    Winter clothing set: Padded jacket and trousers, mittens, headwear, boots - 15 €/set/person/day.

    Camera equipment: We have different kinds of cameras and lenses for rent. Ask for availability.

  • Private hide +120 €/night

  • Payment: Invoice, cash, credit card

  • Tour level: Easy. Normal physical condition is enough. You have to be able to keep silent for the whole stay in a hide.

  • Languages: Finnish, English

  • Insurance: We require participants to have their insurance for outdoor activities in Finland and arctic weather conditions.

  • Tour operator: Our tours are organized responsibly by Matexpro Oy, registered with the Finnish Competition and Consumer Authority (KKV) under registration number 322/21/Mj.
